Giving Back to the Community

Hello everyone,
I hope you are all doing well.  It was so sad to miss our guild meeting last week and to have our retreat cancelled, but our virtual Show and Tell has given us a glimpse of what folks have been working on.

I know that many of you may have been wondering how you can help during the pandemic and I have had several requests about making masks.  I contacted Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) to see if they would be interested in donations of cotton masks. They confirmed that these would not protect from the Covid19 virus as no available fabric has a tight enough weave. Also, if used incorrectly, they may give a false sense of security.

However, HHS would be pleased to accept handmade masks for training and simulation purposes thereby saving the real masks for actual patient care.

I have also received a request for surgical caps for nurses, doctors and other care workers in hospitals and clinics.

If any of you are interested in making masks, I have included a pattern below and there are lots of others on the web. If you would like to make caps, I have included 2 YouTube videos showing how these could be made. All of the patterns are quite simple.

If you are willing to make any of these items, please let me know and I can arrange to pick them up and deliver them to the hospital. You can either email or call me at 905 975-1687.

Thanks so much everyone and please stay safe.

Catherine
